This Summer….

4 Sep

I survived a hurricane.

I went shopping at the Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market and bought some vintage earrings

I saw Midnight in Paris (and now I want to move there)

I saw Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows pt. 2 at midnight, in Imax 3D, with 7 friends, while dressing like a member of Gryffindor

I went to Broadway Bares and saw some very good looking people dance around on stage scantily clad (all for charity of course)

Gay marriage was legalized in NYC and I am so happy for all my friends here who now have equal rights!

I went to some cookouts where Cocoa was very popular

I learned the joys of instagram

I learned how to disable auto-correct on Talulah (my iphone 4) (settings => general => keyboard =>auto-correct=> onoff)

And finally…..drum roll please…..I reached 3 years of living in NYC! Actually, it has been 3 years and 5 days since arriving, 3 years and 4 days since my mom drove back to SC, and 3 years and 3 days since I had my first full day in NYC all by my (grown up?) self.

Some of these events deserve photos. I will try to post a few soon. Many additional lovely events occurred this Summer which deserve longer posts that I will also hopefully write sooner rather than later.

Happy labor day, friends!

Glen Hansard Solo Concert

10 Aug

Glen Hansard of the Swell Season (my favorite band) and The Frames (another band I greatly admire) performed a solo show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art earlier this Summer. Along with the concert there was a guitar exhibit that sort of gave you a history of the instrument. I didn’t go with anyone, just me and my city. Sometimes I don’t like going to concerts alone (not that I do this often) but Glen’s music is so engrossing I really felt like company actually would have been distracting. Anyway, below are a few videos I shot during the concert. I hope you enjoy and if you haven’t already, check out Glen!

Singing “Falling Slowly:”

Here he is just being musically phenomenal:

A little audience interaction:

Glen invited a 10 year old boy to perform on stage! How adorable:)

Opening Night

2 May

I have a list of posts that I have been meaning to write (I’ll eventually get around to all of them) but I thought I would start by talking about opening night of How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

The show itself was great (although the audience was kind of subdued for an opening night crowd) but let’s be honest, as much as I love the show and love opening nights, it’s the parties that I tend to really look forward to. And this party was at the Plaza Hotel! Can you say classy?

There were a lot of rumors floating around about whether or not we would be invited to the party but (thanks to the lovely producers) everyone from the front of house staff was invited:)

The party was 2 (count ‘em: 1, 2) floors and included fantastic food, flowing champagne, live music, black ties, party dresses, celebrity sightings, a VIP room (that the ushers may or may not have crashed once John and Daniel left), and plenty of class!

I didn’t get to meet Daniel unfortunately but to be fair, there were tons of people there so after doing press for an hour, eating in the VIP room and I assume saying hi to a few folks, he bolted. I am sure he was exhausted and doesn’t strike me as a huge partier. I have heard only the nicest things about him so I can’t wait to meet him and be best friends;) John Laroquette stopped (because we sorta made him) and let us ushers throw a few compliments his way before leaving. He also seems lovely.

A few photos from the evening:

I'm with Tammy Blanchard who is in the show. She has done several movies too and is just the sweetest!

Crashing the VIP room!

Jenn and I. Fellow ushers!

Stealing centerpieces! Actually, they told us to take them. Yes, that's Anthony Rapp. Most random photo of my life.

And a breif list of celebrities encountered aside from John, Tammy, Anthony, and Dan (because we all know I’m a sucker for a good celebrity sighting!):

-Victor Garber
-Angelica Houston
-Bernadette Peters
-David Hyde Pierce (maybe the nicest man alive)
-Liza Minelli
-John Stamos (He looks just as good in person. And yes, I though of uncle Jesse and giggled at one point.)
-Megan Hilty (Broadway name)

Thanks for indulging me on the celebrity front. I am really enjoying working this show. Please come see it if you can!:)

Oscar Promo!

28 Jan

I love the Oscars and I really love this promo for it:) Enjoy!

I think James and Anne as hosts was a surprise but I think it could be one of the funniest, classiest Oscars ceremonies we’ve seen in a while!

The blog is back!

16 Sep

Hello friends,

It has been a very long time since I have updated. That is because WordPress stopped loading correctly on my computer. turns out my computer had a few issues and I ended up getting a new one. So, expect many blog posts in the next few days. First, I have to figure out how to get all the photos and documents from my old computer onto this new computer.

Please cooperate with me, external hard drive. Thanks!

Love to you. Blog soon!

At home

23 Jan

My first post on my new blog…..woot.

It seems the most recent excitement in my life occurred over Christmas break when I went to Pennsylvania an NYC.

My  mom,  step-dad, step-niece, and I all left for Pennsylvania on Dec. 28th and it was amazing. We saw family, visited te 300 year old farmer’s market and ate amazing food you can only get in Pennsylvania. But as much fun as it was, in my mind, it was all a count down to Sunday when we left for  NYC.  I felt like I was home the entire time I was there. I didn’t like going in the hotel because I didn’t want people to know that I was indeed a tourist. So, because if I attempt to describe everything I did in NYC and how it made me feel this will be the longest post to date from me which we all know will be pretty lengthy. So, here is a snapshot:

Window displays at Saks and Macy’s, Trump Tower, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Radio City Rockette’s Christmas Spectacular (which included an absolutely beautiful living nativity), Cute pizza parlor, Touristy souvenir shop, Today show, confetti wishes, Matt Lauer waving at us, Random people yelling “Go Tigers” as we walked around in our orange, mom’s Birthday, Lunch at an over priced TGI Friday’s on 5th Avenue, truly surprising mom, Times Square for 9 hours,  Hannah Montanna (which will thankfully make my step-niece’s best friend jealous), sharing fries with stranger, random people making out in front of us, Ice skating at Rockefeller Center, Olive Garden and Hershey’s Store at Times Square, Central Park, Lunch in Central Park, Belvedere Castle, Build-a-Bear, Toy-R-Us, indoor Ferris wheel ride, Little Mermaid on Broadway, cast autographs, Sherie Rene Scott, 13 hour car ride home, and lots of picture developing:)

NYC  was wonderful. There was a slight reality check….i.e. rude people who I am happy to say we did not have to encounter 2.5 years ago when I first went to NYC but what is great is that I don’t care…..rude people or not, I just felt like I was home.

So, much more to update you all on and I will try not to take too long. This is the blog that I will most likely have when I move to NYC so bookmark it and leave comments:)

love and hugs
