The last few weekends

May has been sorta crazy. To start off I flew to Orlando for a couple days to see my cousin Ian graduate college. Then 2 weeks later I flew to SC for a solid 40 hours to attend my friend Kayla’s wedding:) And this weekend I’m flying back to Orlando to see my younger cousin Connor graduate high school. Since I was traveling so much I left Cocoa with my family in Orlando (they drove her back to SC with them) and it turned out to be s mart decision. Poor thing ended up being diagnosed with bladder stones. She had surgery yesterday and is totally going to be fine. But if she had been with me when all her bladder shenanigans were happening it would have been more difficult to handle and I probably would have had to take a day or two off work. Which I’m willing to do, but if it can be avoided all the better. Thanks, mom!

Anyway, here are photos from the college graduation, wedding, and all the shenanigans in between:)

He looks like a celebrity greeting his adoring public.

Ian with my mom. It’s unintentionally candid (redundant) and I kind of love it.

DSCN1530 (2)

The cousins!

DSCN1544 (2)

Ian gave a little speech at lunch. He looks like a young Jon Hamm, no?

IMG_3087

Photo on the menu. Celebrity.

Baby girl lounging in Orlando. Life is hard.

IMG_3186

Work follows me.

IMG_3181

We went to Harry Potter World! If you don’t understand the next several photos, you don’t understand me.

IMG_3178

Except this one. This was just a cool duck hanging at the restaurant where we ate lunch.

IMG_3195

The following weekend My friend LeeAnn and I ate here and saw Macbeth on Broadway with Alan Cumming.

IMG_3203

Tara and I checked out a rooftop bar for her bachelorette party!

IMG_3206

I guess these views are okay;)

I also went to a coworker’s Burlesque show with some girls from my new office. I don’t have any photos but I can assure you it was a lot of fun!

IMG_3209

Sunday brunch with Alison!

IMG_3212

I entered a healthy cooking competition at work. I don’t know how healthy this actually was (which is probably why I didn’t win) but my original plan ended up disgusting (pumpkin quesadillas) so spinach dip and rice chips for the (not) win! All the entries (including mine) were vegan and gluten free. Also, I fried up those rice chips myself:)

IMG_1892

Then it was off to SC for Kayla’s wedding! Here she is as her dad walks her down the aisle.

IMG_1891

This is the groom’s face as she walks down the aisle. I always look at the groom but this time I took a photo and I kind of love the expression on his face!

IMG_1893

IMG_1900

IMG_1903

After the ceremony they danced down the aisle!

IMG_1907

There were some mad libs and this is the advice my friends and I left for the happy couple!

IMG_1923

With Ashley, the maid of honor:)

IMG_1929

With Kate!!!

I also saw The Last 5 Years off-Broadway and I saw Matilda! All thoroughly enjoyable!

I didn’t really take any pictures from this past weekend (Memorial Day), but it was (for the most part) a solid balance of being lazy vs. being social. On Saturday night I met up with Sarah. We got a light dinner at Le Pain Quitodien, a cocktail at The Smith, and then saw Iron Man 3 (really enjoyed this!). On Sunday I rented On The Road (not sure how I feel about the movie, but I feel the same way about the book. On the bright side, Kstew may be a reasonable actress after all!) on demand and took a bike ride. Monday I got up earlyish and saw Frances Ha (highly recommend…super charming).

The weather on Monday was lovely, too:) I also got to see my friends Tara and Joe, but it was under some unfortunate circumstances which I’ll tell you about later:( I mean, we’re all physically and friendship-wise fine, but it’s something that deserves its own post and I’m not prepared to write about it now.

And on that ominous note I leave you with my super grown up realization that I had on Thursday/Friday: I don’t have time for things that don’t make me happy.

Right?! Do you feel me? I can’ t go super into detail here (it wouldn’t be professional), but I will say that I was ushering a show and for one specific reason (not involving the show itself or the other ushers) I no longer enjoy working that theatre, so I will work that theatre no longer. I will come back to it in a few months maybe. I’m not protesting it, I just need to be at other houses for a while. And I feel super relieved to have made this declaration! Not like it was bothering me, like I knew a declaration was coming but didn’t know what it would be. It’s just nice to realize things like this sooner in life as opposed to later, I think.

Okay, I’ll stop being deep now. Talk soon, sweet friends!

PS I worked on my layout a bit, just simplified the side bar, moved some things to the footer area, and changed the title. Thoughts?

All the things I didn’t blog about: Winter/Spring 2013 Edition

Here it is! The third and final installment of “All the things I didn’t blog about.” Are you excited? Is the anticipation killing you?

Well. Get to it, then;)

IMG_2671

I mean…

IMG_2684

Alison’s Birthday!

IMG_2688

Alison, Sarah, and I have been planning days out for each other’s Birthdays. This was Alison’s day out: we went to the Guggenheim, ate lunch at a diner, had a quick break (Alison napped and we waited in line for rush tickets to a show), ate dinner at a delish hibachi restaurant, and went to see Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Then we capped it all off with a glass of wine at Glass House Tavern. What a lovely day!

IMG_2692

I curled my hair for the Barry Manilow opening night. Too bad it was cancelled. I’m still too cool for school. (This is an expression. Stay in school, kids.)

IMG_2696

I cleaned out the Blue Man box office where I worked. Cleaning is a favorite activity of mine. Because I’m the coolest. Obviously.

IMG_1834

Then Barry Manilow opening night actually happened.

IMG_1836

…at the Copa, Copa Cabana.
That was original. Also, No idea what the inspiration for our expressions was.

IMG_2796

More selfies. And yoga. I did yoga. Then I stopped because I got bored but it was fun for a while.

IMG_2725

National Pancake Day. Appropriate celebrations.

IMG_2753

It snowed….

IMG_2791

Tara and I went out and about in Soho in search of vintage wedding dresses. We didn’t find much but it was fun. And we did stumble across some love bombs.

IMG_2793

I experimented with wearing a lot of jewelry at once. And I liked it.

IMG_2824

My goddaughter (yes it’s Tara’s cat, and yes I’m serious) Miu (aka Ofelia) turned 8 so we threw her a little party. See? I’m definitely cooler than you.

IMG_2808

Cocoa attended wearing her finest party dress.

IMG_2863

Cocoa also got all of her toys out while I watched one of the Twilight movies. Obviously she’s a werewolf and her toys are vampires. I raised her well.

IMG_2867

Grace church on Broadway. I used to walk by it all the time when I would walk from Union Square to Blue Man and finally got a chance to go inside.

IMG_2866

And one of their members was on the Titanic. You know Titanic is my historical thing so I dorked out a bit.

IMG_2896

Some more wedding dress shopping.

vscocam10

My mom and aunt came into town. First things first, we hit up Pomme Frites for some delicious fries:)

vscocam9

We took a peak at the Freedom Tower’s progress.

IMG_2904

We saw this guy on Broadway.

vscocam11

And we ate nom-a-licious doughnuts at Doughnut Plant.

IMG_2913

It snowed. Again.

IMG_2921

I bought this skirt and then saw Breakfast at Tiffany’s while wearing it. It just seemed like an appropriate combo.

IMG_2928

We finally had some sunny days so Cocoa and I took advantage of the hammock.

IMG_2929

IMG_2936

Documenting a good hair day. Because when you’re approaching Spring and it still feels like the middle of Winter you take the small victories.

IMG_2938

This is where Cocoa hides when I cook. Apparently my domestic streak makes her nervous. Or my cooking. Or something’s really wrong with my stove.

IMG_2943

My co-worker brought in some delish treats from Veniero’s to celebrate/mourn my last couple days at work. Update: I quit because I got a new job. Still working for Blue Man but now I’m full time at the corporate office:)

IMG_2952

My pink Easter bunny. It’s a good thing Cocoa loves me.

IMG_2955

Celebrating Tara’s Birthday after my first full day on the new job. I felt so grown up/like a real person.

IMG_2967

My friend Kendra is really into Japanese culture so naturally, some girls went to her place and we dressed up like Geishas.

IMG_2970

Geisha-tude

IMG_2996

Sarah’s Birthday! We took her to lunch at Eataly, got manicures, went to the museum of sex, roamed around with coffee because we ended up with extra time, ate dinner at Hooters (we are the classiest), and did karaoke at one of those rent-a-room to sing in places. It’s great because you don’t have to hear other people sing badly. Only you and your friends.

IMG_2998

Tara and I tried out Martha’s Bakery in Astoria. Their iced mochas are banging’ and the eclairs are ridiculous. It’s going to be a problem. I could have worse problems though;)

IMG_3003

Self explanatory.

IMG_3009

Sunshine!

IMG_3018

I was trying to grow my bangs out, but I lost patience and just cut them off. I still mostly wear them to the side but their more manageable. They were at that awkward not quite long enough to pull back, not quite short enough to wear down phase.

IMG_3021

I color coded my wardrobe. I recommend it. Now I know what colors to avoid when shopping (black and blue) and what colors to pursue (pinks and reds).

IMG_3042

This face!

IMG_3048

I took myself to the Met a couple weeks ago to see the Fashion & Impressionism exhibit. If you have a chance to go, I highly recommend it. It was very thorough and super interesting. I wasn’t allowed to take photos in the exhibit but here’s a selfie in one of the fancy wings.

IMG_3052

And after browsing the exhibit, stumbling across photography in the Civil War exhibit, I successfully got myself lost in the Met. Easy to do and kind of my goal. Stumbled across this, went in, ended up in the 360 degree Versailles room (another spot I highly recommend and it’s permanent), and finally found my way to the exit.

I hope you enjoyed! Next, I’ll update you on what I did the last 2 weekends and we can officially call it caught up! Let’s hope it stays that way. I’m gonna do my best!

I’m sure I did other things, like see shows I forgot to mention or whatever, but I just gave you the photo highlights of 2013 so far. Winter was crazy long but it finally ended/is ending:/ and I can see the light that is Summer. But having a Spring has been nice (when it’s not raining).

This weekend I’m off to SC for 40ish hours to go to my friend’s wedding (dear friends, stop growing up!), so I’m pretty excited about that!

Talk to you (blog at you?) soon! Happy Wednesday!!!

My Life According to Buzzfeed

I’m working on the final installment of Everything I didn’t blog about. Look for that soon. But for the weekend I leave you with these gems.

My life story according to BuzzFeed:

This is my shopping story.
I love Sex & the City, but YES!
All of college. Home work or SVU? Never a question. SVU.
I love my friends
My childhood!
The Golden Girls knew what was up. I still go to them for advice.
This is how I feel about exercise too, cat.
Re the Mindy Project: Yes!
Today. And every Friday.
Accurate.

You’re welcome. Happy Friday!

All the things I didn’t blog about: Winter 2012 edition (or lots of faces and non-apologies)

Epic post No. 2!

Deep breath! Ready. Set. Go!

Let’s start with the story of Amadeus. Amadeus was a Christmas tree looking for a good home. This is where my roommate Jessica and I came in.

Yes, I name my Christmas trees. Christmas is a serious business, guys. It’s my faaaaaavorite thing!

IMG_2280

A little “getting to know you” selfie with A.

IMG_2283

Amadeus was shy to start.

IMG_2282

But he soon warmed up to Jessica’s 8th grade dance style wooing. Is there room for Jesus in there?;)

IMG_2284

Amadeus in all his glory. He wore rainbow lights, tinsel, and literally leaned a bit to the left. Needless to say, he fit right in;)

IMG_2302

Mom came to visit (for reasons I’ll go into later. Maybe.) Anyway, we had a really nice day of roaming around and taking in the Christmas windows. It can’t be all business when you’re in NYC.

IMG_2223

Bryant Park Christmas tree. This was before it was lit, but you can just imagine how pretty it is all lit up.

IMG_2210

Roaming around the Bryant Park Christmas Market with a Max Brenner hot chocolate. Happiness.

IMG_2231

Ice skating with the roomie!

IMG_2221

IMG_2228

View of the city looking up from the ice rink. It’s so nicely nestled in the middle of everything:)

IMG_1852

A night out with the girls. We went out to dinner and saw The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I highly recommend a viewing of this movie if you haven’t already seen it.

IMG_2354

This was the first of many Christmas parties:) My friend Christine hosted a lovely get together at her place in Brooklyn. This was early December.

IMG_2449

Cut to: 2 weeks later. With Greg who hosts a Christmas cookie exchange every year. This week the cookie exchange was the first of five (yes FIVE) events I was attending in one week. Social butterfly right here.

IMG_2446

IMG_2448

IMG_2467

Sarah was my date to the Blue Man Holiday party. Event number 2 that week.

IMG_2471

With the boss.

IMG_2475

Couch lounging at the after party with co-workers.

IMG_2494

Event number 3 that week: the Jujamcyn Holiday party! My hearts and his snow flakes kind of match so, TWINS, I say!

IMG_2493

Pretty face

IMG_2481

pretty face

IMG_2479

pretty face

IMG_2480

pretty face. So many pretty faces.

IMG_2482

In case you forgot: this happened! Maybe the prettiest face. Sorry, friends. Only I’m not really sorry.

IMG_2497

Event number 4: Kristy’s Birthday dinner!

IMG_2503

Aaaand event number 5: Alison’s annual Holiday party. These are 2 of my favorite ladies:) And party week concludes. Phew!

IMG_2527

Sarah and I roamed around the city. It started as a search for a tacky sweater for her to wear at work on Christmas Eve. But we ended up covering some other fun Christmas attractions and sight seeing:)

IMG_2462

Mall trip to Jersey with Kristy. This was my obligatory selfie. It screams Myspace, no?

IMG_2673

Look at all those Christmas cards! I feel so loved.

IMG_2556

My Christmas up through Christmas Eve. I went to Christmas Eve service at a local Lutheran church, had a Christmas Eve morning breakfast of eggs Benedict (thanks, Jessica!), did some crafts with Tara (painted a water bowl for Cocoa and Tara and I ended up getting each other different variations of the same thing for Christmas.), at the airport with my puff, and a decked out house in Astoria. Basically my dream house;)

IMG_2558

I flew home (to SC) on Christmas morning. This is my family’s tree.

IMG_2559

The aftermath.

IMG_2629

This guy is camera shy. Sorry, Benji, I’m not sorry.

IMG_2639

That face!

IMG_2571

This lady loves it when I come to visit because she gets to sleep in the bed with me. A treat for her due to some bladder issues.

IMG_2579

My aunt, uncle, and 2 cousins came up the day after Christmas and we went hiking. This is my skeptical hiking face.

IMG_2580

My cousins. The manliest.

IMG_2611

I went out to dinner with some of my girlfriends and their babies (babies!) This is Abbie’s baby – Liam.

IMG_2614

Becky’s girl – Brie. Fierce.

IMG_2621

My Southern ladies. These are some of my favorite people in the world. Also, when did we all grow up? I mean, babies!

IMG_2576

These ladies also rank among the favorites. This was after eating some sushi and viewing some Les Mis. Btw, Les Mis from the 5th row is too much. Too much, I say.

IMG_2633

My step-niece, Lydia. Ugh, stop growing up!

IMG_2634

A little coffee date with this lady before heading out.

IMG_2645

Back in NYC just in time for New Years!

IMG_2654

Tara and Joe taking selfies. We celebrated at the beer garden in Astoria. They gave us free hats and noise makers, there was no cover charge, they showed all the Times Square festivities on TV, and there were enough people there that I felt cool but not so many that I had to scream at my friends to be heard.

IMG_2643

IMG_2661

Classy.

And on that note, I conclude the second portion of “everything I didn’t blog about.”

One more to go!

All the stuff I didn’t blog about: Fall 2012 edition

Are you ready for this? It’s pretty epic. Two more like this coming your way. Then we’re all caught up and I will hoooopefully get my act together and update this thing on a regular basis:)

*Huuuuge inhale*

My friends Tara and her hubby Joe had the good fortune of car sitting for a month or so in the Fall. So Tara, Cocoa, and I drove up to our friend Henry’s house – about an hour and a half outside the city – to hit up some apple orchards:)

IMG_1886

IMG_1905

IMG_1907

IMG_1928

This is what we did with our apples:

IMG_1958

Apple pie & apple crisp. Nom nom.

Tara, Joe, Henry, and I  are also avid Downton Abbey fans. I mean if you didn’t already know I’m a huge Downton fan and you’re one of my 8ish regular readers, then I’d like to know what rock you live under. So avid in fact, that we literally could not wait until January for the new episodes. Literally. We would have exploded into tea cups and fancy hats;) So we watched online each week after it’s UK airing. Naturally, the occasion called for a fancy hat!

IMG_1832

Crazy kids:

IMG_1833

IMG_1834

3??

My mom came to visit in mid-October and among other things we hit up the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx. Neither of us had ever been before, and it was the last day of their Monet exhibit. They designed (I don’t know the proper word) garden clusters to resemble his paintings. And they had a couple original works of his on display, too.

IMG_1672

IMG_1683

IMG_1729

Me in the rose garden

Aside from Monet my favorite exhibit was definitely the children’s garden. Since it was Fall they naturally made everything out of pumpkins!

IMG_1703

Pumpkin bug! I would be way more into bugs if they looked like adorable pumpkins. Take note, bugs. Be adorable.

IMG_1719

Pumpkin Zombie! This doesn’t make me like zombies but who knew you could do that with a pumpkin!?

We also took a mini road trip to Pennsylvania to visit some family. This is outside the Central Market. It’s one of my favorite places for food shopping and general merriment.

IMG_1968

Halloweeeeen! You guys, my halloween costumes (yeah, multiples) were epic. But that hurricane Sandy had something to say about Halloween this year.

Halloween outing #1 took place the Sunday before. The St. James had a little shindig and we all ate a lovely catered brunch in the mezzanine lobby in costume.

IMG_1994

Hair preview for costume #1

IMG_1989

Sandy from Grease drinking a hurricane. Get it? Get it? Hurricane Sandy. Boom! Mind blown, right? The drink is actually red Gatorade. This was a work party. Employers: please note my extreme responsibility here;) I also chose to do 2 Halloween costumes because in the event that the hurricane was really bad (and it was for some) I didn’t want to be insensitive.

IMG_1986

The St. James crew! I won 3rd place in the costume contest:) Oh hey, Starbucks gift card!

During Hurricane Sandy I had some free time so I carved a pumpkin. A Mckayla Maroney pumpkin. You’re welcome.

IMG_2007

In all her glory!

In all her glory!

Please note: It is possible to get sick of oreos. At the grocery store I really thought cereal, oreos, and peanut butter would last me for at least a week. After 2.5 days I was done. No worries! I’ve since recovered my oreo appetite.

Halloween was the day after Sandy and Cocoa decided to get festive with her pumpkin costume.

IMG_2018

IMG_2028

I was Lady Mary (in mourning?) Black was the easiest costume option.

IMG_2034

Lady Mary ready for a night on the town!

The trains still weren’t running so Tara and I tried to go to our favorite bar but there was a line out the door. Not to be a snob, but we don’t do lines. Especially at a place you can usually walk into and get a table. So we roamed around but everywhere was packed. Cabin fever. We ended up opting for wine on my couch in costume. No regrets.

IMG_2029

Cocoa also had 2 costumes. This is her as “sexy” Dorothy. Legit, they just miniaturized the adult sexy Dorothy costume.

Birthday shenanigans pt. 1:

IMG_1740

Drinks at Glass House Tavern on my Birthday eve with lots of lovely people all in one place:)

IMG_1746
IMG_1748

IMG_2126

Alison gave me this Birthday card. It’s maybe my favorite Birthday gift ever.

Birthday shenanigans pt. 2:

IMG_2078

Birthday Brunch the morning after. Squish! This is probably my favorite ever photo of Alison and I.

IMG_2086

After brunch we did a little shopping. Some of my favorite people in this photo!

Birthday shenanigans pt. 3 (because I’m the Birthday girl and I can!):

IMG_1761

Hat party. It was small but super fun! Cocoa doesn’t have any hats so she wore my favorite party dress instead.

IMG_1766

Threatening to eat Cocoa. So basically a normal day at home.

IMG_1758

Cocoa & Henry love. Maggie Smith face.

IMG_1770

Ellen! I don’t see this lovely lady enough!

IMG_2110

I voted! So so so important. If you don’t vote, then when things don’t go your way you can’t complain. And now I have fulfilled my preaching quota for today.

Fuerza Bruta:

IMG_2130

You can take photos in the theatre during this show. Unheard of and amazing!

IMG_2131

IMG_2132

IMG_2134

IMG_2146

Dan really enjoyed the show, too. He’s like Flat Stanley. Only grown up and hotter;)

IMG_2144

Thanksgiving(!):

IMG_2189

The ensemble. Remember, I’m vain;) Guys! I curled my hair.

IMG_2182

IMG_2183

Me and Kristy!

IMG_2169

My delish cooking. That stuffing is what I’ve eaten since I can remember. I made a few small adjustments to vegan-ize it. The gravy is also vegan and I found the recipe online. And the “turkey” is actually fake meat from an Asian grocery mart in Soho. I’m not vegan, but I have vegan tendencies and Kristy is vegan. And, even the meat and dairy lovers really enjoyed it:)

IMG_2178

We’re fuuull!

IMG_2193

Of course Cocoa dressed up for the occasion.

And breathe. Phew!

Winter 2012 edition coming soon to a blog near you;)

Happy Friday! It’s weekend time:)
